Important Post Office Dates for The Holidays

Nov 12, 2012 -- 1:38pm

If you want your holiday packages and letters to be on time, remember these dates:

  • November 14 (This Wednesday) APO/FPO Parcel Post Military Deadline
  • December 3 Priority Mail International
  • December 10 Priority Mail Military
  • December 11 Express Mail International
  • December 14 Parcel Post
  • December 17 Global Express Guaranteed
  • December 20 First-Class Mail
  • December 21 Priority Mail
  • December 22 Express Mail

Some things to remember:

Confirm Addresses. Print addresses clearly and in all CAPS and be sure to include all address elements — apartment numbers, suite numbers and directional information for streets. Never guess on a Zip Code.

Choose the Right Box. Select a box that is strong enough to protect the contents. Leave space for cushioning inside. Boxes that have been used before should be given extra care when taping. Boxes weaken when they ship.

Pack Delicately. Cushion contents with shredded or rolled newspaper, bubble wrap or foam peanuts. Plain air-popped popcorn also is good for cushioning — it's inexpensive and yummy. Pack contents tightly to avoid shifting during transit. Always use tape that is designed for shipping. Do not use wrapping paper, string, masking tape, duct tape or cellophane tape
