For the long suffering Chicago Cubs fan, the summer of 2016 is memorable in how the Chicago Cubs are capturing our attention. As I write this in Stew's News, I reflect on how successful the Cubs have been this season. The team led by Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo is at most 13 games ahead of their second place rival St. Louis Cardinals. Many of us diehard Cubs fans are looking to post-season, however, we still have an eye on the possibility of trouble ahead. We just can't shake what we've seen too often. The Cubs have often disappointed and we once more focus on next season. But I'm trying to out on a limb here. A crash now would take some doing. The team is so far ahead and the players are incredibly good at what they do on the field and at bat. This is such a solid team, it's hard to imagine sustained crappy play.
To this...I was motivated to write a song about the Cubs season. I focused on this as the Summer of Fullfillment in Cubbie Blue. I'd like this season to be remembered as the season where we as fans were finally fulfulled with a Cubs World Series Championship. After I wrote the lyrics, I looked for a composer to write the music and singers to perform the song. I got lucky with an excellent composer and he and his band, Vertical Jam worked on the song for about a month...and then got back to me and sent me the song. This was an incredible experience to hear the lyrics come together in song.
On August 19, 7pm, Vertical Jam will perform the song for the first time live on concert at Carpenter Park in Carpentersville. Vertical Jam asked me to introduce the song and I gratefully agreed. So if you can be there at Carpenter Park on Friday, please say hi.
