LYRA Performs Chants of the Russian Orthodox Church and Folk Songs from Russia.
LYRA, an A cappella chorus of professional vocalists from St. Petersburg, Russia, will present a concert of Russian choral music on Sunday, April 14th at 2 PM in the main sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church.

The first portion of the concert will include sacred music of the Russian Orthodox Church by famous masters and little-known but remarkable Russian composers from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The second part of the program will include Russian folk songs, comical lyrics, dancing, love songs and much more.
LYRA is a community of professional musicians numbering about 25 people.
Their concerts usually consist of five to six singers in order to maintain the quality of the harmony. Most of the members are students or graduates of the St. Petersburg Conservatoire. The members of LYRA represent different musical professions: choir conductors, opera singers, instrumentalists and music teachers. They are all united by their love for choir and ensemble singing.
In 2001 LYRA was awarded the Montreux (Switzerland) international choral festival diploma.
In 2005, the group was a winner at the Coleraine International Choral Festival (Northern Ireland).
This is a unique opportunity to hear an important part of the enormous Russian musical heritage.

Come and enjoy the sounds of Russia as interpreted by native Russians.
The duration of the concert is approximately one hour.
A free-will offering for the performers will be taken.
