Volo Bog State Natural Area
28478 W. Brandenburg Road
International Bog Day celebrates bogs around the world.
At Volo Bog State Natural Area, an art show, artists reception and silent auction features 22 pieces by 16 artists, each inspired by bogs from around the world.
The show is accented by live guitar music of Ray Eisbrener and John Ratajczak.
Guided tours along the floating boardwalk into Volo Bog are held throughout the afternoon.
Participants can discover carnivorous plants living beneath floating trees growing upon the quaking bog!
Bog Crafts for Kids include pitcher-catchers (the old ball-in cup game) honoring the carnivorous pitcher plants, among other crafts.
A Bog Dog Picnic invites Norwegian elkhounds and their people to stop by for a visit.
Ancient elkhound remains have been found preserved in northern European bogs.
Meet the bog dogs in the picnic area.
International Bog Day and the art auction are held as a fundraiser by Friends of Volo Bog who will have bog refreshments for sale, and will happily accept donations that support restoration and education programs Volo Bog State Natural Area. "Like" International Bog Day USA on Facebook!
